Bay Area heat pump rebates — the honest 2026 version.

The incentive landscape shifted this year. Here's exactly what's available, what's waitlisted, and the concierge service that tracks it all and files the paperwork for you.

The honest 2026 incentive status

The incentive landscape changed for 2026, and a lot of older online advice is now wrong. Here's where things actually stand:

  • Federal 25C tax credit: expired December 31, 2025. We don't count on it for 2026 projects.
  • TECH Clean California (single-family) & federal HEEHRA: waitlisted statewide in 2026 with no confirmed reopen date. We won't advertise them as available.
  • Still worth checking: the local Clean Energy (CCA) and utility programs below, plus SGIP — these may apply depending on your address.
  • Always available: Wisetack financing (up to $25,000) — the lever you can count on regardless of rebate timing.
Verified Bay Area programs

Local rebates we track for you

The CCA and utility programs Plum is set up to work with across the Peninsula and South Bay. Funding and amounts change constantly — so every program shows a verify-current status rather than a promised dollar figure.

Estimate, not a quote

Heat pump vs. gas: a rough savings estimate

Slide in what you spend heating with gas each year for an illustrative range of what a heat pump might cost to run — plus you'd get cooling included. This is an estimate to frame the conversation, not a guaranteed number.

Your inputs
$1,200 / year

Not sure? A rough guess is fine — this is illustrative.

A heat pump also replaces your AC — cooling is included, not a separate bill.

Illustrative estimate

Estimated heat-pump heating cost

$660 – $1,020 / year

Estimated change vs. gas heating

$180 – $540 lower / year

Illustration only, using a 15–45% energy-cost-reduction range. Your real numbers depend on your rates, home, and usage — and only an in-home assessment gives a true figure.

Rebate FAQs

Straight answers on 2026 incentives

What heat pump rebates are available in the Bay Area in 2026?

⌄

The picture changed for 2026: the federal 25C tax credit expired, and TECH Clean California (single-family) and federal HEEHRA are waitlisted statewide. Several local Clean Energy (CCA) and utility programs — like SVCE, Westlight Energy, San Jose Clean Energy, City of Palo Alto Utilities, Silicon Valley Power, and BayREN — plus SGIP may still apply depending on your address. We verify what's funded for you and file the paperwork.

Can I still get the federal heat pump tax credit (25C) in 2026?

⌄

No. The federal 25C energy-efficient home improvement tax credit expired December 31, 2025. Plan your 2026 project around financing and any active local utility or CCA programs instead.

What happened to TECH Clean California and HEEHRA?

⌄

As of 2026 both are waitlisted statewide with no confirmed reopen date, so we don't advertise them as available. Our Rebate Concierge monitors the waitlists and files the moment funds reopen.

Does Plum HVAC handle the rebate paperwork for me?

⌄

Yes — that's the Rebate Concierge. We match your address to active programs, complete and submit the applications, and follow up. Our team (including Natalie) has walked many customers through rebate paperwork like BayREN.

Are there rebates for a heat pump water heater?

⌄

Possibly. Federal HEEHRA is waitlisted, but SGIP and some local utility/CCA programs may apply to a qualifying heat pump water heater. We confirm current eligibility for your address.
